During this process, we will learn more advanced modeling techniques ad focus a lot effort on re-creating accreting materials and textures for our models. We wrap up our conversation by exploring “Polygonal Flow” and the proper application of this important structural element.

TIme to Run!

This week, we are going to look at all of the moving parts and peices of a run cycle. On the surface, animating a character running down the street seems like an impossible task, but focusing on the core poses will allow us to quickly flush out the overall movement. Remember, the core poses, or Key Frames, communicates the overall movment to the audience. Our animation will be a success if we can nail down the key poses of any animation. Lets jump in!

Creating a Premise

The dramatic elements within a game provides context to the core gameplay experience. Through the premise, the player is allowed to quickly consume the dramtic elements, like character, story, conflict, background and plot, and move into the game with a solid undestanding about the world their are about to participate within. In many ways, the premise initially establishes the core gameplay experience for the game.

Masking in After Effects

Masking in After Effects

When working on professional motion graphics or feature films, the motion graphics artists is often asked to remove certain elements from the shot. This process is called Masking, or Rotoscoping, and we have some wonderful masking tools built right into After Effects. One of the things I love about working inside of After Effects is that most of the tools from Photoshop have been brought over to After Effects. The Pen Tool, yea the one from Photoshop and Illustrator, has made the journey over into After Effects. Luckily for us, the Pen tool in After Effects works identically to how to the Pen tool in Photoshop works. Let’s check out how to use the masking tools in After Effects.

Creating a Scene

As video game modelers, we need to remember that the objects we model will directly be controlled by the player. These players will spend hours in this world, so we better make it look awesome and engaging. Creating game art is about creating worlds. This week will be begin to explore the process of flushing out an entire scene in Modo and then transfer our models into our game engine, Unity3D.
